Sauwaluk completed her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Faculty of Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Leuven, Belgium, in 2019. Her expertise is in respiratory physiotherapy. Her research experience was concerning the physiological and psychological mechanisms of dyspnea reduction in response to inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in patients with COPD. In detail, she was familiar with the study of respiratory neural drive by using EMG measurement of the diaphragm and other surface respiratory muscles, including EMG data processing. During her Ph.D. training years, she was also involved in several research projects regarding the pulmonary rehabilitation program in COPD patients and patients with diaphragm paralysis.

In the role of graduate students' supervisor, she has been assisting several master students with their master’s thesis during her Ph.D. training years. She is currently supervising some graduate students and teaching in the graduate course at Chiang Mai University. Her research interest is in dyspnea measurement and mechanism, evaluating and improving exercise/functional capacity in healthy and people with respiratory diseases.
